As one of Australia's principal air facilities, Melbourne Airport (MEL) certainly has a lot to live up to when it comes to facilities. As well as the numerous shops, there are also plenty of cafes, bars and general eateries to lift the spirits of any weary travellers in need of sustenance.
Cashpoints, foreign currency exchange, lost and found offices and tourism desks are all on hand to assist you and make your onward journey all the more pleasant. Melbourne Airport has expanded greatly since being privatised in 1997, and so many sweeping changes have been made over the following years, including major upgrades of all terminals and their related facilities.

The Travellers Information desks are situated in the International and Domestic Terminal Arrivals areas, being open during terminal hours. Services available here include accommodation booking (often discounted), tour booking, transportation services and general flight details.

Melbourne Airport boasts a real wealth shopping facilities located in the International Terminal building, close to the departures area and the arrivals area. Favourite shops include names such as Australian Made, BC by Beach Culture, the Internationale Nes Bar, News Travels, Newslink, Rip Curl, Rolling Luggage, Witchery and WHSmith. To use up your tax-free travellers allowance, there are now two First Tax and Duty Free stores in Terminal 2 (International).
Bars, Cafés and Restaurants
If you are feeling rather hungry and need some food to settle your stomach, then you can choose between bar snacks, coffee shops, fast-food eateries and proper sitdown restaurants. Coffee and a cake is available at Cafe Arome, Cafe Ton, Cafe Vue, the Hightide Lounge, Hudsons Coffee and Macchinetta. For gourmet sandwiches, low on calories and high on taste, Healthy Habits is a relatively new addition to the airport and offers a huge number of filling combinations. Burgers and fries can be found at Hungry Jack's and McDonald's, and spicy chicken wraps are at their best in Nandos. Asian fare is available at Nooodles, where curries, soups and prawn dishes await.
Currency Exchange, Communications and Banking Facilities
There are currently three currency exchange outlets provided by ANZ, and a further branch operated by Travelex. These are open every day, for each flight. Post boxes are sited on the departures level, while access to the Internet is available within the International Terminal Departures area.

Business amenities are at their best within the onsite Hilton Hotel, where an extensive business centre and conference capabilities await. Here, travellers can hire meeting rooms and boardrooms (by the hour, half-day or full-day), as well as equipment and assistance.

Melbourne Airport comes with various facilities, designed to assist disabled passengers during their time here. There are specially allocated parking spaces, pick-up and drop-off points outside of the terminals, adapted toilets and wheelchairs (request in advance).
Other Facilities
Other facilities include a prayer room, showers, a travel agency, baby changing facilities and there is also medical centre in the International Terminal, open from Monday to Friday between 08:00 to 16:00 and on Saturday between 08:00 to 13:00. There are also left-luggage facilities available in the International Terminal Arrivals hall and trolley hire in the International Terminal and South Terminal buildings.
